Silence = Death Pride Palette
This is the Silence = Death Pride Palette!
The Silence = Death Project, founded by Avram Finkelstein and others in 1987 to raise awareness during the AIDs epidemic. The group originally started as an AIDs support group, which quickly became political.
Finkelstein knew that posters were often used to raise awareness in political campaigns, so the pink triangle and its corresponding slogan, Silence = Death, were printed on posters around New York City to raise awareness in the midst of the AIDs epidemic.
The slogan was cryptic but had two main messages: to prompt the LGBTQ+ community to organize politically around AIDS, and to imply to anyone outside the community that serious action was being taken.
There’s too much history here to put in our caption – but we hope to have given you a brief insight into the importance of this campaign. What do you know about the symbol?
We will be donating 25% of our Pride palette sales to Community Southwark, who support charities, community groups and individuals through capacity building, volunteering and social action.
Here are a list LGBTQ+ organisations that they support in the area local to Beautonomy HQ! https://www.communitysouthwark.org/News/support-for-lgbtq-people
